At startup.....PCI Card driver request ?

Hi guys....the laptop that I have set Win98SE onto, at startup is stating........new hardware found PCI card.....then the wizard for the new driver appears ! When I select "search for the best driver for your device...ie....the recommended) having placed the Win98se os disk into the cd drive, and click next.........it continually comes up with Windows was unable to locate a driver for this device......when I click back and select the d (CD rom drive) and browse.....I try to click on the plus sign for Win98 disc but it just won't expand....it just disappears and it looks as though it is a sub of the C: drive ??? The interesting thing is that when I click on the C: drive plus sign and the expansion takes place.....amongst the directors that are there is a Windows.000 and Windows (SQUIGGLE) 000 directory. The former contains all the regular folders (cookies favourites config etc) whilst the latter contains nothing but a temp folder with my firewall logging info in it.....anyway, I just do not seem to be able to identify the appropriate driver for this PCI card by conventional means. I have run explore and I can see all the content of the CD rom including the multiple driver directories but I dont know which one would contain the appropriate driver. Was thinking that if I could do that, I could capture that driver and then load it at the request of the wizard. Any thoughts cos it means that every time I run up the box, it requests this pci card driver ????? Will

ok. the first thing i would do is launch windows explorer, then open the cd rom drive (w/ win98se cd in it) then copy the driver files from the cd to your hard disk (make a 'new folder' on your desktop and copy files into there). let me know what happens.

that is insane. The pc card is either a pcmcia card (in the side, like a credit card), a modem or network card. Hold windows key, press pause. go to device manager and see what is missing compared to what connectors you have, eg. a phone line connector but no modem listed.

You are presuming that the driver is on the 98 disk here, usually with laptops they are brand specific, if the expand button or a folder is greyed when you try to access it for drivers it means the driver isn't there. You may have to go to the makers website to find the correct driver. Device manager will tell you the device that is looking for a driver, search for it at the makers site

Hi, Windoze does not have all drivers for all devices. Download them from the maker or from driversguide.com. Luck, Jim

I got that bug right now on my pc, it asks for a PCI driver, yet i have no pci card installed :/

I just simply let it have no driver, and tell it not to search for one. I have a yellow ? in the device manager for the non existant pci card but at least it doesnt ask for drivers.
