Problems: Add/Remove Progs; Can't print emails; IE6 doesn't work properly

Please help!

1. Nortons Av ran out -- I uninstalled and tried Avast Pro demo
2. I can't print emails, and when I try Windows Update IE6 goes through the motions, but returns a blank page.
3. I talk in Avast Forum. They say Nortons needs an extra program to completely remove it.
4. I get it, run it -- no good.
5. Then they say to compeltely remove Avast I need an extra program.
6. I get it, run it -- but no good.
7. I run RegSupreme, RegClean and RegCleaner.
8. I run Nortins System Utilities from a CD
I give up.
1. I can't print any email (now I copy and laste, drop it into Word, print.
2. Many URLs, including MS Windows Update, act like they're loading, but return a blank page. To handle that, I install Firefox, but I still can't update Windows
3. My Add/Remove Programs screen is BLANK, with a single line of 8 point Times type at the top containing all the menu option which normally should be there. I have no idea how to even try to fix this one!
NOTE: I did this ALL on another computer (Win98SE) and the SAME IDENTICAL THING HAPPENED.
Over to you,
Cheers
John

Hi johnwey,

Sounds like all your problems started after you installed this Avast Pro Demo Software?
It didn’t have a Trogan or some sort of crappy spy ware bundled with it did it?

So what are you currently running for anti-virus software?
Do you use anything like Ad-ware or SpyBot Search and Destroy?

With Norton AV, there is a program folder left behind in your Program Files after you unistall, and a Registry entry or two. Same probably goes for all the other crap you were installing and removing.

For the Registry; you can use regedit and use the Find utility to find anything related to Norton or Symantic. Be careful! If you delete something you shouldn’t, it is instantaneous and there are no free do-over’s.

If you don’t currently have any Anti-Virus protection in stalled you can go to pandasoftware.com and use a free online scanner just to eliminate that, as a problem.
Then if you don’t already have some sort of Ad-ware Spy crap protection, both Adware and Spybot make great little free utilities too.

Humor me, and try cleaning up your computer before you try to load or uninstall anything else. Once you do this; run disc clean up, defrag the drive, and run the full Disc Check Utility. This should detect and fix any little stray problems that might be effecting your system. Then you can go after recurring problems one at a time.

Good luck.
