Error 1606....:\My Pictures

Okay here is my problem. I had an error 1327 invalid e:\drive. So I went into my window registry and changed the register key with E to C.

And then, like an idiot, I decided to change another key, "my pictures" to match the other register keys.

Of course, I forgot to save the original key and now it won't work and it says "error 1606 can not access network location :\My Pictures. Currently the key looks like :\My Pictures.

If anyone can help me, I would greatly appreciate it! thanks

I guess you are missing the %USERPROFILE% from the beginning of the key... but don't change anything yet, do you recall how many time you made those changes ? and do you recall the location ?
Bets thing to do is to create another profile on you Win2k system and look at the registry setting for that profile and then make the modification on your own profile..

cheers

Thanks for responding to my inquiry. I believe I changed it 3x. The first time I changed it to %USERPROFILE% but that didn't work. The location was Current User, and I also looked in another location at those registry keys for My Pictures and it was the ":\My Pictures"
Unfortunately, I do not know how to create another profile in win2k... Please help!

I think SnowMonkey means that you should creat another user profile.

See Users and Passwords in the Control Panel.

Okay I don't feel so bad now. I think the error 1327 was masking the error 1606.

It seems in the registry, the Current User folder...User Shell Folder, the "Type" for My Pictures is REG_SZ and in all the other keys in the folder and in a new user profile (thank you by the way) it is REG_EXPAND_SZ. So I don't think I did anything right at first but I didn't make it worse.

Guidance appreciated!

I have this same exact problem as the original post. How do you change the key type from REG_SZ to REG_EXPAND_SZ? Do you have to create a new expandable string value? If someone could PLEASE help I would appreciate it it very much!!!
