Strange problem with Outlook 2003 Web Access

I started a new job and wanted to use Outlook Web Access at home; I was told my login name and password and I couldn't login from home (Windows 2000 PC).

I can login from the office PC (Windows XP) though.

I had somebody else test it, with the same result: works with XP, but not with Windows 2000.

I only tested it with IE of course, but for some reason I tried it from home (Windows 2000) with Netscape 7 and THAT works!

Can anybody explain that to me, or tell me how I can use IE for Web Access?

What?

Dude, not to be rude, but that was a confusing post.

It sounded as if you wanted to use your at work Network Log on name and password to log on to the internet from home?

Or are you trying to access your work's network from home?

Then, you mention that you "only" tested with IE yet in the very same sentance you also state that Netscape works?

What exactly are you trying to do?

sorry, my English may be the problem...

What I tried to do was to use Outlook Web Access from home (Windows 2000 PC + IE 6.0), the URL being mail.xyz.com/exchange.

I asked the admin how to log in and the said to use my full email-address + my usual Outlook password + to leave the domain field blank.

At first, I tried it with IE because I thought this would work, but it didn't, and only later I found out that it does work with Netscape.

Ok, so what is Outlook WEB Access? Sounds like your trying to access the web through Outlook?
I have Office 2000 and unless I’m missing something I don’t see anything it Outlook called web access? I take it you are using Microsoft office XP 2002 or later?

Correct me if I am wrong here, but what you are trying to do is log on to your company’s network and retrieve your work related email and files from home?

Or are you trying to do your web surfing through the companies access to the internet?

So far you’ve mention 2 web browsers (IE 6 and Netscape) and Microsoft’s Outlook which isn’t a web browser, but a email program/personal organizer, etc.

At any rate, your problem seems (without more info) to be one of either negotiating a connection to your company’s network or your using the wrong application to do what you want to do?

You also have not mentioned what sort of internet access you have from home, ie dial up or cable, etc. Or how your company’s IT guys told you to connect to the network; VPN or say RAS? The only guys that can properly tell you how to negotiate that stuff are your company’s network IT dept.

Remember! If you come on here and tell the rest of us specifically how they want you to access your work network, then pretty much everyone will be accessing your companies network.

You know, just to show you how it's done.

Oh!

I know this is an old post but...

I'm really sorry but I know this is an old post but I have to say this is the worst bit of help I have ever seen, I suggest (if you dont know by now) you look up what Outlook web access is and what it does before you try and help anyone with sort of problem again Dotcoman. Then re-read what you posted and realise how stupid everything you wrote was.... indcluding telling the guy he is giving away his company details, i'm sure he doesnt work for xyz.com.

In answer to some or one of you, yes, you can access the web from inside Outlook, and you can access an Exchange server through a web interface (this assumes some things, but it's easily done). IE is best because it gives you options that something like Firefox does not. I do this every day.

You probably will not be able to use Outlook to access the Exchange server due to security and IP problems (this depends on some things), but the web access should be easy in any browser if it is set up correctly (the server).

As to why one browser will and one won't depending on the OS, I don't know.

Check with the system admin again and be very clear on what you want to do. If the admin is any good, he/she will be able to tell you what to do to access the Exchange server.

solved

Hi, thanks for picking up on this old problem. It's long been sorted out by me trying this and that, in the end I think the difference is that in some browsers/OS you have to enter the domain name as well, followed by slash and username, and then the normal fields for username and password.
