new user to 2000

hey all!
hope everyone is well. i know this is probably the smallest forum of all the win users, but i recently lost my hard drive, which had xp home but no boot disk or backup software, but i was able to glean a version of windows 2000 pro to use as my new os. well, ive never used this before, and im obnoxiously paranoid, as i like to configure my pc to allow microsucks as little access to it as possible. ive already had a ton of probs with software and hardware because they are not compatible with xp (even though, in my understanding, xp was built on 2000/nt tech). anyway, i was hoping a user may be able to walk me through the tweaks and changes best to make, as well as some things that may be compat with 2000. thanks for all your help!!
k

Can you be more discriptive on what you are looking to do.

Most software but not all will work well with 2000. 2000 Is really just XP PRO with out all the fluff (for the most part). Use it as you would XP but keep in mind there is no "system restore" although you can repair or replace all damaged files using the installation disk. 2000 is "very robust" and will give very little problem when reasonably maintained. 2000 like XP is very Ram hungary so I suggest you up your total to 512 if it's not already there.
