Reboot Required after 240 days

I have a system which needs to run 24/7.

Under Windows NT it needs to be rebooted after 240 days as the system just seems to stop working.

I have been told that Windows 2000 does not suffer this problem. Can anyone confirm this.

I would tend to think that every "client" operating system would need a reboot ever so often as they are not designed to run 24/7 saying that maybe you should be looking at a server operating system which are designed to run all day every day (perhaps even linux or unix depending on your needs these are highly regarded as THE stablest systems).

Also have a look at your hardware which is a big factor in your requirements.

FYI, the local coal port here in Vancouver has been running Unix based servers on 386's... here's the kicker.. with 24 years uptime! I know one of the managers, and they've never had to reboot any of their systems. The whole coal port runs off it's own power supply, so power outages aren't an issue.

Unix is definately the only way to go for 24/7 running.

I've heard of NT 4.0 systems running for some time without rebooting, but these systems went through a lot of "tweaking". Windows 2000 is a lot more stable; and I have heard of Windows 2000 systems that have been running for almost four years without a reboot. You may what to also look at Windows 2003.
