Active Directory with Router

Hello-

I am setting up a server in a small office that has no current server. We have a two routers and several workstations (currently not talking to one another).

Well, there are no servers running unless you count the routers as servers because they run DNS to distribute the internet connection, but when I'm setting up the server it asks me to choose if this is the only server or one of many and I choose the only server and it says it can't be the only server because there are already servers.

What does this mean?

Basically, I want the server to be setup so that when users login to thier machines they are logging into the network and not an individual machine. And of course, I want people to have access to certain drives on the server (like a file server).

So when you start the machine(User Machine) you want it ask for a login name/password?

If that's what you want, then you're going to want to set up the domain(I'm assuming you're using Windows 2000 Server). Say that it's the only Server on the system. Then it will ask you to set up through the domain name and all those goodies.
Once you've got the OS set up, make sure the server is set up with a static IP address. The routers are dishing out DHCP and assigining IPs so the server won't have to worry about that. It will still run the domain giving you the logons.
Having the drives mapped will be as simple being connected to the network and mapping to whatever drive or folder on the server you want them to see.
This is a very brief help and for that I apologize. It's kind of an intricate subject, and I'm not sure what you already know about server setups so I don't know how detailed to go.
If this doesn't help please keep asking questions and I'll try to stop jabbering like a fool and actually help you. LOL.

Good luck.
