very broken machine

I have a machine that i cant do anything with. I'm not sure what caused it. Command is gone, msconfig is gone. It wont let me format when i boot with a Dos boot disk. I have tried formatting with Knoppix, but had no luck with that. any suggestions?

Is your BIOS set to boot from the CD drive?.

My bios are set so it will boot from the cd drive, when I said I had no luck with Knoppix I meant I could not format. Also the processeor has stopped working for some reason, so I can't even try anything right now. Thanks though
