Re-formatting hard drive on windows 2000

Can anyone please tell me how to re-format my hard drive?. I want to load windows XP on my laptop which is currently running on Win 2000. I want to do a clean install without partitioning the drive.

Boot from the XP disk and select a "new install". You will also be able to delete the current partition and formatt right from the disk. Just read the options carefully as they are presented to you. It's really quite easy. Remember that you want a "new installation" and not an "upgrade".

Just select "new installation" and XP will formatt the partition for you. Besure to select the correct partition you wish to install XP. The other partitions will remain untouched.

After the format, setup displayed an error message saying the partition could not be formatted or is damaged.Select a new partition.
What can i do ?
I tried installing Windows 2000 on the same partition and it's workin perfectly Doc.
Is there a prob with my partition or XP ??

Perhaps you need drivers for a SATA harddrive or RAID setup.

You have to put these on a floppy, and watch for the option early in the setup. The option is on the blue (i think) bar. You have to hit F3 (again - I think. Been a while).

Did you "delete" the partition first? You need to do that in order to move onto creating and formatting and new one. Many people are confused about this step when installing Xp.

Yes, i even tried deleting the partition and formatting it but after the format setup displays a message saying partition damaged or cannot be formatted.
Then i tried installing Windows 2000 onto the same partition and the setup is done successfully.
So why does Win XP have a problem with my partition when Win 2000 doesn't have ???
Anybody have any ideas plz reply ASAP...

If you now have 2000 installed, can you not insert the disk (XP) while in 2000 and select "upgrade"?
