You've tried rightclicking on the files, selecting properties, right? What about file options in the control panel?

Thank you for your response.
These are user files that the users have created and therefore own. i.e.] user files that are stored on the server and are accessed by them. The administrator moved the files from one hard drive on the server to another hard drive on the same server [e.g. from C:\ to D:\].
The users can see the files from their client machines but can only access them as 'Read-only'. I'm quite puzzled and thus not sure how to tackle this one.
Any suggestions?
