is not a valid win32 application

I have an old bit of software that when I click the setup.exe file on the cd it displays an error window which says that the file 'is not a valid win32 application'. Now I've read up on it and it looks like the reason is because it is an old program and not something wrong with my CD drives.

So I tried to install it from the C drive and Safe Mode and also using different compatibility modes. Is there anything else i can try or is it all but lost?

Hope someone can help

Well I don't know what program it is so I can't help much. I assume it uses either 8 or 16 bit programming. What OS did you have it on first? If it runs on 95 I understand. If it runs on 98 then you have a problem w/2000. If it runs on 95 install windows 95 or FreeDos on your computer and install the program. You might even look at getting vmware so you can run inside your current OS.

It's just a bit of sports coaching software. It says on the cover that it works on pcs running Windows 95 and later. Requires monitor to be set to thousands of colours.

I've had it working on Windows 98. So that means there's something up with my Windows 2000!?

Hard to say then. Sorry but I am out of options. If I can think of any thing I will let you know. Give me the game title and I will look it up and see what I can come up with.

I have something else to try now. I contacted the software manufacturer and they said with quite a definate answer that I have to install the Quicktime version which came with the cd. It sounded as if this is a common problem.

So I'll try this when I get home.

Cheers.

In the end nothing worked so I contacted the software manufacturer again and they said that the software was too old for my pc specs. So they sent out a more up to date version of the software.

Job's a good'un!
That's as much as I can give you on the matter, sorry.

One big thing that could be the problem with old games, software and others is that they are been made for Dos or Windows 95,98 but that they can't be played or opened in Win NT.

Most of the time that stands in small letters in the column where the specs are.

Win. 2000 and Win.XP are working like NT and so programs that can't play on Win. NT can't play on Win. 2000 and Win. XP.

In Win. xp you can act Win. Xp like it is Win. 98. But that's something not allways work. In Win. 2000 I don't know if they got that. But try.

Click with right mouse on the .exe file from the programme and go to settings and compatibility. If it's right you can choose to let it pretend it is dos, Win95,98. If not. Your Windows is not compatible with that.

Win 32 error is one of the things that gives it when it's not compatible with Win. NT. So check the specs of the game.

Hope this helped and cleared a bit.
