windows 2000 pro home network issue

I have a home network - 3 computers - desktop running win 2000 pro hardwired to a Netgear WGR614 wireless router which is connected to a cable modem. 2 laptops running Win XP Home. All 3 computers can access the internet, email, etc. The 2 laptops can see each other and share files. The desktop does not see the 2 laptops and the 2 laptops do not see the desktop. The 2 laptpos are running Norton Internet Security pakage with the Norton Firewall and NAV. The desktop is running Norton Internet Security package and NAV. I had to disable the Norton firewall on the desktop as it would not allow me to access internet, etc. It is running Zone Alarm firewall and working fine - except I can not see the laptops and the laptops can not see it.

I have designated individual folders and the entire second drive for sharing on the desktop. I have placed the laptops in the Trusted Zone of the firewall of hte desktop. I have even turned the firewall off to test. I log onto the desktop as ADMIN with full authority. I have run the Network Wizard till I am ready to scream..... nothing seems to work

Is there an easy way to correct this....... or is it something crazy like the desktop is running on Netbui and the laptops are not? coming from the Mac world, I have found not much is easy in the Wintel world.

any suggestions would be appreciated.

Can you give a little detail on what steps you took to "initiate" the network setup initially. Did you "Identify" the machines running 2000 on the network?
