Printing from Windows 2000 to Windows 2003 server

Hiya,

I'm trying to send a print job from a Windows 2000 Server queue to a Windows 2003 Server queue. Queues are both local queues, the Windows 2000 Server queue has a local port setup to goto the Windows 2003 server queue.

When the job arrives on the Windows 2003 server queue then the job goes onto Error Printing...

I've even tried a Windows Test Page from the Windows 200 Server queue to the Windows 2003 server queue but still get the Error - Printing message...

If I try a Windows Test Page direct from the Windows 2003 Server queue then this prints fine...

Can anybody help me out??

Thanks, Eif

What does the Error say?

Error Message

The status of the job simply says Error Printing in the printer queue window - no matter what port is used(tried IP address and File:Print to File). There is nothing in the Event Viewer.

Cheers, Eif

Humm, hard to say.. Does both win2k and win2k3svr detect the printer and the most up2date software (print driver) is installed? Do you have a proxy or firewall installed that might limit access to win2k3svr? How did you share the printer. Give me as much detail as you can! Make/Model, Network setup, $shares, MS client/server $shares, Newwork access (ie: what protocols/restrictions)?, print services running, oh, and last.. how is the printer connected to the network/or which computer/or print server/q' etc.. I will help if I can..

Why are you using two printer queues? Can't you print directly from the 2000 machine to the 2003 printer queue?

Why two queues...

We are sending data from an application on the 2000 Server to the 2003 server that has our software installed on it.

In production users will need to be able to print directly from the application to the print queue on the 2003 Server(our software runs as a print processor so we need the job to hit a local printer queue on the 2003 server).
Tried using a network queue on 2000 server but this had the same problem.

Thanks, Eif

Question Similar Problem

Having the exact same problem only printing from Windows 2003 to Windows 2003 Standard Server. I have no problem going from Windows 2003 to Windows 2000 Server, XP Pro or W2K Pro. Only going the other way, I was wondering if anyone had ever figured this out?

are you using the right driver? is your win2000 sees the 2003 server? how did you link your windows2000? have you tried your printer on the windows2000 machine?

You simply add the printer as a network printer in win2K. All print jobs will be queued and processed by win 2K3.
