windows 2000 pro install error

I have a pcchips m811 mainboard w/ via jt266a + vt235 chipset. My processor is an amd duron 850MHZ 200mhz fsb. My video card is an nvidia g-force2 mx400 64mb pci. I have pc2100 128mb ram.
I am trying to install windows 2000 pro. When I am in the blue screen where it says windows 2000 setup at the top it starts installing 2 things and then it stops. It says File \i386\ntklmp.exe could not be loaded. The cd was brand new. I made sure the bios settings were correct and I formatted and reformatted the hard drive. I keep getting thta message. Then sometimes it does not show that message but then latter it say cdfs is currupt. setup cannot continue

If anyone knows what the problem is i would be most appreciative

thank you

Sounds like your CD is a bad copy. Dunno maybe damaged by sun or something. Maybe it was just a defective copy.

I would suspect either a problem with your CD Rom or your Ram memory. Either one will cause similar issues during an new installation.

No, I am suggesting that you test your Ram memory and or swap out the CD ROM (drive), not the disk. Download and run "Memtest".

I also get a message ad the beginning of each settup that says "I/O disk error: Cant arcread boot partition for signiture" It says somthing like that but I can still go on. I am wondering if my hard drive is bad. I have a Western Digital 120gb hd that I bought new at best buy.

That's a good question at this point. If possible download the harddrive tool from my web site (Western Digital tool) and run a diagnostic test (short test).
If everything appears O.K., then "Zero" the drive and try reinstalling again.

when i downloaded the utility onto the floppy i could not run it in dos. so i put the hard drive in my other computer and ran the utility that way. i did a quick test and it tested out so i did wright zeros and that finished. when i put the hard drive back in the computer I still get the same error.

Would it be the motherboard & processor or harddrive or both?

I know that cd works because I installed it on another computer and it went fine.

Thanks

Part of your error message may indicate a problem with your mouse or even the keyboard. Any chance they are Logitech?

I'm quite sure it's hardware related. Have you tried getting into "safe mode"?
You also make mention that your video is "PCI". Have you checked in BIOS to make sure it's configured correctly (in case BIOS has reverted to default)?
Do you have an AGP card you can try instead of the PCI?

I strongly suspect the problem is related directly to video at this point. Everything is O.K. (as you have stated) until Windows trys to load the video drivers (non VGA default). That's where I'd be looking closely at this point.

I put in a different video card that is agp and looked in the bios and made sure my video settings are correct. Unfortuneatly the problem still persists. In the error screen it said stuff about replacing your video adapter and getting a newer bios version but I only bought my motherboard a few months ago and I think the bios is up to date. I did try getting into safe mode by pressing F8 but I could not get into it. I also tried different keyboard and mouse from my other gateway computer.

I have the same issue with a different motherboard. I have 5 K8 M871Gs and i get the same error on all of them. i called pc chips and they said to return the motherboards to the vendor. this issue happens with both 2000 and XP. I have several CDs of both and i know all the CD work since i build a lot of systems. i have tried all possible hardware combinations. different types of memory, different hard disks, and various graphics cards with no avail. All my components are brand new. I hope to finish one system so that i can create an image and then just ghost the remaining ones. but still nothing. if anyone can help me with some suggestions then i would be very greatfull

what are you saying? are you saying to return the motherboard and get a new one? I bought it from tiger direct over like 3 moths ago and they only offer a 30-day warrenty. Besides this is the 2nd motherboard that they sent me. I was thinking of buying a motherboard and cpu combo from tigerdirect.

let me know If i should do that
