more invisible files in recycle bin

My Recycle Bin icon on my desktop shows a full Recycle Bin icon and it offers me the option to "permanently delete 48 items from the recycle bin". When I open the Recycle Bin folder, it appears empty though I know that it is not. I do not have the option “Do not move files to the Recycle Bin. Remove files immediately when deleted” enabled and I know that I have more than enough space reserved for the Recycle bin. Can anybody help? This has happened before but it would show up at some point. This time it has been invisible for weeks.

Do you perchance have norton utilities installed? or anything similar? its just norton utilities often backs up various files in its own little recycle partition, and when you open the bin they arent actually there. Except they are. If this is something you have, you need to right click, select properties, and open the norton protected recycle bin.

Thanks for your suggestion. As a matter of fact, I do have Norton installed. AND...After eight weeks of invisible files, everything in my recycle bin magically reappeared last night. Oh well.
