windows 2000 nt server.......yuck!

My husbands boss gave him a computer. It's got Windows 2000 NT Server on it. Problem is no one knows what the password is and there for we can't get it loaded. I can't guess the password....I know that idea was silly! I can't even get it to go into dos mode. Tried safemode and I even need a password for that! Can you imagine???? Is there someone out there that can help me? I would really appreciate it. Thanks in advance.

One of the easiest way of getting around this problem it a third party software called "Winternals Admin" , this software has a lock smith module which allows you to change the Admin or any other password on the computer.

It's not really a good idea to run 2000 server as an operating system for home use as it's lacking most of the features most home users want. I'd suggest just going out to a local computer store or even walmart and picking up a copy of windows xp.
If you decide to do this I can help you with the installation process to get rid of the 2000 server installation.

Just for clarification - you have windows 2000 server. Not NT.

There are 4 versions of windows 2000. Professional, Server, Advanced Server, and Datacenter server (that beast costs 15,000$ a piece!).

You cant go into DOS because it is not based on DOS, like windows 95, 98, and ME are.

Accually, the server version of 2000 is not lacking anything compared to any other version of 2000. I have installed Professional on my computer before, and it was about 800 MB installed if I remember correctly. I have also installed datacenter server on it before. It takes about 100-200MB more space and comes with some extra server tools. Nothing lacking. At all.

As for XP, it does not offer anything signifigant over any version of 2000, and is a big waste of money to get if you already have 2000. Plus, its really slow.
