Help re: Used computer/Win2000Pro
A relative received a used computer that was used in an office setting and has Windows 2000 Pro installed on it. After hooking everything up, it apparently was working OK. However, the next day it would lock up, the screen would go black and then some error messages would appear. I couldn't restart the computer so I unplugged and then reconnected. Same thing happened after a few minutes and a schematic appeared on the screen with instructions to press the F1 key which I did. The computer started to do something and then everything seemed to stop and another error message appeared which said " Windows 2000 could not start because the following file is missing or corrupt \WINNT\system32\c_1252.ns. Use original setup floppy disk or CD-Rom, select 'r' at first sreen to start repair."
The person who sold the computer said he would send down a copy of the Win2000Pro Operating System disk. I'm not a computer tech. so with the computer now totally unresponsive what will happen when I put the disk in the CD-ROM? Will the computer still recognize the disk and start the reinstall or is there something else that I will have to do in order to start the process?
Your help will be greatly appreciated.
