Can't add additional domain controller to an existing domain

Hi everyone

Having severe problems joining one domain controller to an existing domain. Once I input my credentials, a window appears saying that it cannot find Active Directory on the other domain. It suggested that it could be DNS settings.

I am not very skilled in the DNS settings.

Can anyone help??

Make sure that the computer you are trying to add as a domain controller is using the same DNS IP address as one of your existing domain controllers. That is probably a good starting point.

I always install the DNS service on each of my domain controllers. I set the primary DNS address to be the local machine and the secondary address as one of the other domain controllers.

Which version of server are you using? I'm no expert but I beleive the SMB edition only allows for one domain on the network.

HaroldWe, thanks. I added the ip address of the existing domain controller into the "Preferred DNS" into the new domain controller network settings and worked a treat.
