Need help with win2000 recovery

Not sure what happened but something on the motherboard burned out. I have taken out the hard drive and tried installing it in another computer hoping that would fix the problem but can't seem to recognize the hard drive. Is there any possible way to fix this problem without having to format? I would appreciate any suggestions you can give me. Thank you.

what makes you think something on the mobo fried?

what do you mean by doesn't recognize the HD in the new computer (bios or ...)

it is possible to put a win2000 hd in a new computer but it's a bit of a pain in the butt. if you can get the drive to boot, boot directly into safe mode and remove the majority of entries in the device manager, then reboot normally. that way you won't be running services and drivers for hardware you don't have.
