i can't log on to windows

i bought this windows 2000 professional at the goodwill store. (it was used in a business) it worked fine, but it would not detect the modem. i played around and changed some of the network options, rebooted, now windows loads then, a "log on to windows" box shows up(b4 i messed with the network properties this did not happen, it went to the desktop). the box has the user name as administrator, and it's asking for the password. do i have any hope of using this computer? maybe re-install with xp? thanks, for any help!!

click on options from the logon screen and tell me if a drop down screen appears with a domain or not?

why you entered password. just
username - administrator
password -

press enter

or

username - user1
password -

press enter
