Please someone help!!!!

I have win 2000 pro. When i restart the computer or turn it on sometimes my mouse will work and other times it wont i have went to MOUSE in control panel and set it at LOOK FOR WHEEL then when it restarts sometimes the mouse will work and other times it wont even detect it. I dont understand why this could be. You guys have help tremendously before and i know you can help me this time if you have anything post it i am willing to do just about anything to fix it so thanks for your help.

what kind of mouse do you have ? is it PS2 ? if so, try a USE mouse.........One of my older PC had issues with keyboard port and I have to get a USB KB to get around the problem.
