Network drives dropping out

can anyone shed any light on the error message I get below from a pc I have on my network that's running Windows 2000 adv server?

an error occured while reconnecting, drive V to //server/data,

microsoft windows network : the local device name is already in use

this connection has not been restored

instead of using drive letter "V" use something like "O" or "P" something that isn't in use.
