Exclamation Missing drivers for sound and monitor after reformat and reinstallation of W2K Pro

Hi Guys

I managed to get myself a computer free from work. I've reformatted the hard drive and installed Win 2000 Pro and now I have no sound and my monitor doesn't display properly. The sound and monitor were both fine before I reformatted. In device manager I have exclamation marks next to Multimedia Audio Controller, PCI Device, USB Controller and Video Controller.

I think that there are drivers missing for these things. I've just installed a new monitor but it seems that drivers are missing for that too. In Control Panel > Display, "(Default Monitor) on VGA" is listed and I only have the option to display in 16 colours and at 800x600.

I think that I need to download and install some drivers but I'm not that techie, I'm not really sure what I'm meant to do. I've had a good rummage around the net but can't work out what I need to do. I'd really, really appreciate any help with this as it's starting to drive me mad.

Many thanks in advance

Iain

Here are the drivers you need.....don't worry about installing the monitor driver....as long as you have the video driver then it should work fine.

Motherboard Drivers:

http://www.msi.com.tw/program/suppor...UID=591&kind=1

Video Driver:
https://support.ati.com/ics/support/...e&folderID=295

Cheers

Monitor still not working properly

Thanks snowmonkey. I really appreicate your quick response.

Thanks to your help I've managed to sort out the problem with my sound card, however I haven't managed to sort out the problem with the monitor display.

I tried installing all the drivers that you told me too but had problems with a couple of them.

When installing the "Intel 845/865 G/GL/GE/GV VGA Drivers" the wizard presented me with a list of possible Device Drivers to install. I chose "Intel (R) 82845G/GL/GE/PE/GV Graphics Controller" as it seemed the most suitable option based on the "845G" part of the code. After the installation was complete I then had a "Display Adapter" icon visible in the Device Manager however the "Intel (R) 82845G/GL/GE/PE/GV Graphics Controller" icon listed below it had an exclamation mark next to it.

I also had a problem installing the AMD driver. I chose the "Windows 2000 Display Driver build 5.13.01.3279" for RAGE 128 / 128 PRO but it wouldn't install. Even after installing the latest version of DirectX9 (which this driver requires) it still wouldn't install and said "Display driver not compatible with the display adapter installed in your system". Presumably this is referring to the driver I mentioned previously.

Do you have any ideas why these drivers still aren't working even though they are the ones on the MSI site? Any futher help would be really appreciated.

Cheers

Iain

Hey Iain,

Did you download the Video Driver from MSI site or ATI / AMD site......On AMD site, you need to open expand the search panel on the left and look for ATI Rage 128.....please note that they have older version of the driver on the same site.....so if the drive from MSI did not work for you then you should try it from AMD site , I would even try the older driver too.

Cheers

Snowmonkey, you're an absolute star. I had to download a couple of the older drivers before finding one that worked but it's all hunky dory now. I'd buy you a pint but I don't know how to send it down my modem!

Thanks very much for being such a huge help.

Iain
