Can't disable Active Desktop in Windows 2000 (can't put a wallpaper)

Hi..
My bro changed the wallpaper on my Windows 2000 desktop from some site, the next day after turning on the PC the wallpaper does not appear and all the buttons in the background tab of the properties of the desktop are disabled (grey) and so is the web tab. The "show web content on my active desktop" in the Web Tab is checked and disabled, I can't do anything with it. I removed the item that was added from my customized desktop but no use.. I tried scanning the PC for Viruses and spyware didn't work. What should I do to be able to put wallpaper back on my desktop?
Thanks

I've been having an identical problem recently. I'd certainly appreciate any information on how to remedy it as well.

Well I found the solution.. I had to update the registry by deleting the values of some keys concerning the active desktop as below.. I was able to disable active desktop but the background properties is still greyed out (can't change anything in it) although I am now able to change my wallpaper as I like..

[HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\Curre ntVersion\Policies\Explo*rer]
"NoActiveDesktopChanges"=-
"ForceActiveDesktopOn"=-

HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\Curre ntVersion\Policies\System
(and)
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Microsoft\Windows\Curr entVersion\Policies\Syste*m

Delete the values " Wallpaper" and "WallPaperStyle" in the right-pane.
