Error starting VNC service

I have a machine running VNC, a 2000 pro box I believe, and I am having trouble accessing it.

I have tried restarting the vnc service with a remote mmc to services, but I get the following error:
Code:
Could not start the VNC Server Version 4 service on MACHINENAME Error 1053: The service did not respond to the start or control request in a timely fashion
and then
Code:
Unable to query status for service VNC Server Version 4. The remote connection on MACHINENAME has been broken.
Code:
The system encountered the following error while reading the list of services on MACHINENAME Error 6: The handle is invalid.

Then all the services disappear.

I have also tried:
Code:
psexec \\machinename cmd net start winvnc4
which gives the following error
Code:
The service is not responding to the control function.

Then I get
Code:
Error communicating with PsExec service on soupdragon2 The specified network name is no longer available

Any ideas how I can fix this and get my vnc back short of rebooting? (people are using this with long running processes so I am not in such an easy position to reboot)

Thumbs up Something to ask....

The VNC software I have consists of a "VNC Server" and "VNC Connection (Best or Fast)". For me to connect to another machine, VNC Server has to be enabled on that machine for you to connect to it. If VNC Server is not enabled then connection to the machine would fail.

You can tell by the icon for it in the notification bar at the bottom right of the screen near the clock.

Do you have that enabled?? If not you can enable it by going to:

START => ALL PROGRAMS => VNC => VNC SERVER

Any problems give me a shout.

dude, what is that?

above I am talking tech and here you are talking home pc dumbass.

do you think I would know how to do the stuff above if I didn't know how to start a program?

of course the vnc program is not running because it's fallen over and the service will not restart.

I don't have local access which is why I need some way of restarting it remotely.

First of all, there is nothing on this site saying that you are a computer professional, you could be someone with no computing knowledge putting on error messages hoping someone will come up with an answer.

Second, if you have an attitude like that then you will not get the help you need.

Agreed.

You won't be able to anything with VNC if the service is busted, since that service is what makes It work.

Bite the bullet and reboot. Next time, install some sort of fallback software, or have a backup machine standing by.
