i bought a used compaq desk-top and i need to clean out the old users stuff from the hard-drive. is software available to clean out this junk? it came with registry garbage but i bought webroot spysweeper and those bugs are in a jar!

get a reg cleaner like ccleaner or reg machanic..do a disk clean up as well. one i use is useful will remove all the crap http://www.download.com/Advanced-Win...=dl&tag=button

What model is it? If it's got his junk, I'd format the PC completely and start from scratch, there could be anything on there that you don't want to see etc.

So to be safe, format the pc and be sure

Compaq desktops have often (almost always?) had a recovery partition. If you don't have an install disc, you could use that to return the comp to as it was when purchased (crapware and all).

CCleaner is worth having, BTW.
