Audio Problems (Please Help!)

I came home one day from work, my computer restarted, and my sound just instantly stopped working. Now, I kind of miss it and don't want to really take it to a computer store and have him mess around with it and pay him money if I can do it myself. I have Windows 2000. Here are some things that are going on..

- My volume control on my taskbar is gone

- When I go to Start -> Accessories -> Entertainment -> Volume Control, it states that "There are no active mixer devices available. You may install mixer devices from the Add/Remove Hardware Wizard in the Control Panel."

- When I try to play sound through Windows Media Player, it says "Windows Media Player cannot play the file because there is a problem with your sound device. There may not be a sound device installed on your computer, it may be in use by another program, or it may not be functioning properly."

I have no clue what happened, but I'm bored without my sound. Can anybody help me out? Thanks in advance.

Upon research, you guys are looking for the Belarc Advisor stuff. I got it for you.

go here to Intel, audio driver for D815EFV motherboard
http://downloadcenter.intel.com/Deta...02000&lang=eng

Your audio plugs must be on the I/O plate for this driver to work, if you use an expansion
slot then you have a Sound Card installed, see here, click the image to focus
http://www.overclockeddoc.com/bookwo...0io%20slot.JPG

Set a System Restore Point before installing drivers just in case
Start instructions / All Programs / Accessories / System Tools / System Restore / select Create a Restore point and follow

When I try to download the Service Pack 1 (I needed it to install the driver I guess), it says "The version of Windows 2000 you have does not match the update you are trying to install."

So far, no luck

Also, I don't have System Restore on my computer.
