Problem with Wireless and IP Addressing

Hi,

Not sure if this is the right section to post this but here goes.

The scenario - One of my sites runs a Windows 2003 domain. There are 4 wireless access points scattered through the building which up until recently were working fine (By fine, they allowed conection but trying to have 20+ people logging on at once ground them to a halt, you have to love small IT budgets).

Now however, Whenever anybody connects to the wireless netwrok they do not get an IP address although they are connected and authenticated as far as the AP's are concerned.

1. The site uses DHCP to issue address'
2. If you connect via a cable you can get an IP address.
3. The AP's are on the network, pingable and able to be configured.
4. If you give a laptop a static IP address it cannot ping the AP or anything else on the network.
5. 2 different brands of AP, belkin and netgear. Both have the same problem. two of the AP's have now been reset back to factory defaults and reconfigured just to make sure with no change in behavour.
6. No errors in the server event logs to say there is a problem with DHCP or anything similar that I can see.

Has anybody got any ideas because this one has got me stumped now and I don't know what to look at next.

Thanks in advance

John Walker

sorry to reply so late ......I don't think I have an answer for you but I want to understand you situation better.

Which device does the DHCP for you?

Assuming that you have a Wireless Router and your APs are connected to the router (if that's the case)......Can any wireless device close to the router get an IP address from the router (not from AP) ?

Again, assuming that you have wireless router, have you disconnected the APs and see if you can get an IP address from the Router wirelessly?

Cheers
