Windows 2000 loop

I have an IBM thinkpad with windows 2000 that I got from my grandfather. It recently started up, i typed in my password, it would start up and then just log out and say "saving your settings" before restarting. I am able to boot into safe mode and I ran a virus search which turned up a lot of viruses but it still won't start up fully so I can do things. I also tried the last known good settings and it would do the same thing. Is there anything I can do without the reboot disk thing? Please help
