Help! PLeeeze :) (networking)

Ok, this is my situation,

I have one computer connected to the internet (by means of ADSL) and another machine in another room both are using Windows 2000, I want the second machine connected through my First to the net, so I have brought up a Hub and the nesseccary cables, I have set up the network so the machines can see each other, they can swap files etc etc, but question/problem is, I have had this working before, but one machine was using windows XP (the one with the internet access), and ages ago I had a network where the server had Windows 98 on it, but using a program called Vsocks I could connect to the internet, does 2000 need a program to allow other machines to access its internet? or do I need to just install a protocol or have somekind of gateway setup?

...I have to say XP wins on this one, as before all I needed to do was to allow sharing of the of the internet in its settings, and "PooF" connected....

a simple yes or no is fine, but if you have any information you could share I would be a very happy camper.

sorry meant to add...

Its Windows 2000, lastest service pack - can't remember what number- and the hardware all works fine, just can' get the second machine online in a internet sense, not a LAN sense.

To save a lot of heartache try a router.

Windows 2000 has built-in Internet Connection Sharing (ICS) and trust me it is as magical as Windows XP's. But the only problem is that Windows 2000 needs two NICs (they are about $10), install the second NIC in your computer and go to property of your first NIC and you will see a new TAB shows-up and that is your sharing tab, it magically does DHCP and you are off to the races

cheers

Am playing with WinGate at the moment www.deerfield.com
And its seems ok for internet sharing.

If you get a bit of cash get a Netgrear FVS318 Firewall/Router with a firmware of 1.3 it's a cracking little piece of kit for the money. I got a couple of these and use them for routing, VPN, DHCP the lot.
