Unable to logon as Administrator-Win 2000

I am running windows 2000 on a 7yr old laptop. Since loading Avast AV I have been unable to log on as administrator. (I get log on box in which I can write the password then get “loading personal settings” which is as far as goes; I just then have a blue screen with the egg timer - it maybe something to do with a lack for resources- maybe something to do with virtual memory)
I can however log in as a subsidiary User.
As I think the problem is with resource hungry Avast I want to uninstall it. However I can not do this from the subsidiary User account.
1 Is there a way to uninstall from the subsidiary User account by someway overriding the restrictions?
2 And/or is there a way to get in to the administrator account?
Any help/suggestions much appreciated.

Question

Blue screen - Did you get any error messages? If so could you post them on here?

thanks managed to sort it out thro safe mode .
Touching on a different point:
I want to download KeyScrambler as an add-on for Firefox in a subsidiary User A/C. This I can only do through Firefox’s “Get add-ons” The problem is that this download add-on is an earlier version. It is only possible to get the latest Keyscrambler version outside Firefox for the administrator a/c.
1 Is there a way to get the latest version into the subsidiary User a/c?
2 Is it possible to give administrator rights to a subsidiary a/c
Any help or advice would be much appreciated

Jopet,

It would be nice if you posted what and how you solved the problem so others can search for it if they need to. "I have solved it," is not in the spirit of these forums. It is about sharing stuff.

It sounds very similar to a problem I am having and am about to post on this group. Had you outlined the solution I may not have had to post.

Your next issue: You need to be logged in as an Administrator. Go to Control Panel, Users and passwords and create a new user with "Administrator" rights.

Dave
