win2000 Installation problem

I started upgrading my computer from win98 to win2k. It installed okay, but during the setup process the computer crashed with this error,

STOP: 0x0000023 (0x000E00C8, 0xFE1EE808, 0xFE1EE460, 0xFE55716B) FAT_FILE_SYSTEM address FE55716B base at FE54F000, datestamp 3814aad92 - Fastfat.sys

It also tells that the memory dump was completed.

I tried to reboot the computer a few times, each time it goes through the win2000 setup process and crashed with the above error.
I tried F8 during the boot and tried to boot using different options but they went through the same setup process and crashed.

Need HELP to recover my computer.

If you have got a backup of all the files you want to save - go for a clean install.

If you dont have a back up and you need to retrive the data, you can perform a parallel installation. Once you got your data back, then you can format the drive again. And clean install one copy of w2k.

never upgrade when possible, always do a clean install. The issue is that win2k was designed to run optimally on ntfs, with support for fat32. Your best bet is to use a bootable floppy, run fdisk, destroy all partitions, recreate/format the partition and drive, then run win2k from cd and do full install.

Try booting with win98 bootfloppy disk and see if all your data is there and that you still have FAT on that disk. If everything is there I would buy a new hd and install win2k, ntfs of course, and move over all the data to it.

If no data is important to keep, I would boot up with the win98 bootfloppy disk, then run fdisk and delete all partition and boot you pc with the win2k cd in the rom. Start the installation and create partitions and format with win2k's tools!
