Unhappy Having problems with svchost.exe

A minute or two after I log-on to the internet I get this:

"svchost.exe has generated errors and will be closed by Windows. You will need to restart the program."

After this I start having problems with many links not working and not being able to copy and paste. Anybody know how to solve this?

svchost.exe

I was having this problem as well. When I downloaded the patch for the blaster32 worm from Mocrosoft.com, the svchost.exe problem disappeared. I can only speculate that it involved the same security flaw that the blaster worm exploits. My stepson had the same experience. Hope this helps-GW

glennw may be right. I don't use Win 2000, but I've heard some 2000 Pro users say that treating this as a Blaster worm issue has taken care of the problem. A couple of points about Win 2000 and the Blaster worm:

1. Microsoft doesn't support the Gold version or SP1 (I'm not sure about SP2), so upgrading to SP4 will be necessary in order to successfully download the patch.

2. It's vital that you follow the steps in the correct order. Download the patch first and then use the removal tool after you have the patch (and a firewall up).

Removing all trace of Blaster and installing the patches does not do it for everyone. Even people doing a clean install are reporting the same svchost problem. Some admit to reinfection from transfered data and outlook files.
