2k will not let me delete files!

I have a small network setup at the office. The server is running Windows 2K and their are 4 people using XP to access the server. It is a very basic file server, nothing special. However, more often than not, when a file has been opened, than closed, the server won't let us delete the file because it is "already in use". Now, we know for a fact that nooone else is using the file, unfortunately, the server thinks to the contrary. It usually hapens with excel files or word documents. Any ideas on how to fix this very annoying problem?

dear.. right click my computer,
manage,
session
remove the sessions of the files from there
and then try deleting the files.. may this happening because of temporary files created with the Office package....
