i cant wait to get my hand on this new one... but there is a bit of hesitation.... i read somewhere that its basicalyl just a upgraded version of XP albeit a bit slower.. is that is the case then i think i will be happy using just the new version of media player and the browser for XP when they are released

Nothing new. At all.

Sure it looks sorta cool, but linux has looked great for years.

It will just make your computer slow. My computer has 192 MB RAM and 4 year old XP runs slow on it.

hmm.. im not even sure if i like the new layout =\ I think now they're getting too hightech and the layout looks way too complicated, but who knows in afew years you'll probably be forced into getting it, just like XP or you wont be able to download new programs anymore..

Just a note, M$ are haveing lots of problems with Vista, theres talk of a SP3 being issued, so I think I'll do what I always do, give it at least 12 months before trying so they can get rid of all the bugs and let other makers update all their drivers.

Look here to get Vista Shell http://www.cbttechs.com/forums/showt...ighlight=Vista

That's a good point, one of my biggest mistakes was rushing into Windows XP. I got it around as soon as it was released and it had a lot of bugs

well yeah that is true most of microsoft products are pretty buggy in the beginning and while they are able to take out most of the bugs so that most normal home users are not affected... but it still is never perfect

As far as the new look is concerned i think that sooner or later design has to evolve.. am not saying that microsoft's design is the best.. but well someone has to make a start

just looks cool

Windows vista just looks cool u can find many templates that look and feel the same as vista. Even u can find programs that change start up screens log on screens and icons. These are all free and legal. I also heard vista has a search bar on the start menu. This is the same thing XP has its just u have to perform a few clicks. The new I.E is not nearly as efficient as mozzila firefox. The only thing that really changes is the Media player.

Here are some templates:templates
These aren't the exact look but it is close.

There also is a thing called Longhorn transformation pack I wouldn't recommend it though.

Without the much touted but yet to be seen WinFS file system (the replacement for NTFS) Vista is just XP with eye candy and more restrictions.

OSX not going to be (legally) avalable on a PC. You can go with the cracked OSx86, but its not legal.

Ext3, the linux filesystem, is better then WINFS will ever be.
