Windows Vista

Hi guys I don't know if this is just me but I'm so used to work with XP that Vista does not look atractive to me. I just installed the 5308 version for testing propouses and I don't see anything but bugs. I have tried 3 antivirus already. Norton, AGV free Edition and McAfee. None of this 3 work on Vista. Of course the compilations have been made to run on XP. The Administrator account is some how limited. You have to set permitions in every folder to access to it even running inside the administration account. It is kind of going through out 5 diferent Windows to set the permition. The right click on the desktop does not give u the Desktop properties so now everything is separated. One Windows for Display, Desktop, Settings, etc, something that is really easy on XP with only one right click on the desktop. The worst bug I have found is that right after the installation process the computer fresses when you are configurating the user account for the first time before entering into Windows. I have tested that 3 times already... There is a lot more but I have a customer right now I will post some other info later...

Oh I forgot to mention it.... The installation takes 8.57 GB from my HDD (SUCK!!!)

hey, i actualy prefer the vista look over xp. Its got a better color scheme and all blends in well. For the bugs, i heard an announcment on www.aeroxp.net/board that microsoft were re-writing 60% of vista! It will be officially released in january 2007, been delayed as they will fix errors. By then it should all be fine and solid like xp. Read more at aeroxp.net to help answer your questions

It's typically normal for any new software and updates to have a bug or two. If you remember SP2 when it first came out, wasn't so nice to some people. My computer went into a loop reboot. But now all is good and fine and SP2 is good.

Wishlist...

My wishlist is short! I wish Microsoft would stop releasing new versions just for the hell (& profit) of it. Vista is not a radical departure from XP & from what I've seen to date, not worth buying, just to keep up with the Joneses! Make mine XP until they make it worth my while & money to "upgrade".

In my personal opinion the lack of security and the 8GB + 512 Minimun Requirements to run Vista is gonna be a problem for some people including me.... So far the DVD installation CD is 2.7GB Almost nothing about drivers has been included in that version+ The big security is going against yourself somehow like I just explainded, that's without googling a little bit to find out that the BIGGEST SECURITY O.S CREATED BY MICROSOFT HAS BEEN BROKEN ALREADY... You know What I mean by BROKEN!!... How BIG will the Official verson be?? We don't really know yet, I guess we will have to waite until the 2007... Even though the Nice and UNNECESSARY Translucent kit has been added to Vista I still prefer the XP... You can get a lot out of it... What will make me upgrade or to buy a new Windows (Vista) I don't know yet... I guess nothing so far... I am not willing to spend 1000 dollar in hardware just because Microsoft has launched a new version... And I tell you what... My Computer is only 1 year and a half old and Vista does not run on it... 1GB RAM, 2.8 GHz Compaq Presario s7300CL. I had to use a laptop to test Vista... Will my motherboard be included in the list of Vista? I don't really know yet, but it is not so far... I have even tested LongHorn in my PC and it works... So why this time is Vista so strictic about hardware? I guess Microsoft is cooking an idea about our pay checks... They will try to take money away from you somehow... Hehehehe... huh by the way.... How many programs are compatible with Vista? I have only 2 in my list so far and a bunch of others that does not run on Vista...

Hope this Help

Ok guys, what's up with this. I have tested Windows Vista in 3 diferent Compaq. None of them have worked yet!!. I think Compaq is not using 1st quality hardware but it is using pieces with problems. It got nothing to do with accesories but with the motherboard itself.

Call me cynical but I believe MS launches newer versions of Windows (even if they don't appear to offer much more than the previous version) just to get you to send more money their way. And if the new version has higher system requirements (as Vista does) then it also means more cash for the hardware manufacturers. The two go hand in hand. I think MS will have an uphill struggle to keep the profits rolling in (with Vista anyway) because XP was such a giant leap forward in stability and built-in driver support and does all that most users want.

I read somewhere that atleast 800mb ram and 64 bit processors where the only way to fully enjoy Vista.
This may or may not be true, XP was a real pain when it first came out, no software seemed to support it, drivers were hard to come by. Had to force 2k stuff to work and most apps did not have a 2k compatible version. Now ntfs systems are the standard. People with 98/ME are getting the message that their operating system is not supported.
What I do not like is MS's power hungry software. As I can afford, I try to keep my system running good and maybe a little faster. No matter how much ram, processor, or whatever I dump into it, it does not seem to make enough difference to justify the cost. Then again, if I use someone's computer with, lets say 256 mb ram and a 32 bit Intel P4 2.8gig processor I feel like i have been slowed to a crawl. I have always upgraded before it was a have to thing in an effort to be fast, because I play alot of games.
Every tweak and every trick I can find I use, still my machine does not put out the performance I think it should. When I first used XP, I had a 1 gig P3 and 256 megs of ram and the system was fast, now I have a athlon 64, a gig of ddr2 ram, sata HDs and my performance is not much different, except I defrag hella fast. Yes I have the 64 bit Windows XP edition, in case you thought I was still using the 32bit like a noob.
I dont know how long it will take for Vista to get all the bugs out, and if it will be great or another Windows ME. I look foward to trying the full release, mostly because I am bored. Other operating systems are fun to try, but I game and would have to emulate Windows to play 99% of what I enjoy playing, though Linux distros have made some vast improvements and my machine does perform to my expectations with the ones I have tried, until they are fully plug and play and people can click next-next-next to install software they will not appeal to the mass market, just the tech elite.

Hi, this is my first post here and I have to put in my 2 cents.
About a week ago I ordered the dvd kit from Microsoft which cost $10.70 and came with the 32 and 64 bit editions, 1 key which can be used on 10 machines. It took about 4 days to get my order. The fast shipping was the best thing about it.
Installing it is super easy, the over-all look and feel of the whole operating system is a complete Linux rip-off. The only thing about it that is not like Linux is it's slow performance.
Anti virus software has issues no matter which one I have used, even the free trend pc cillin trial offered up by the Vista support site.
Driver support is just as I expected, you can force Vista to use most XP drivers, but it will complain about the performance issues if you run the performance check. This is very likely to be the problem with it being sluggish, but my hardware is not cutting edge stuff, which I should list for those thinking I am running it on a total junker.
P4 Asus motherboard
P4 2.67 gig 533mhz fsb 512 cache
Radeon 9200se AGP 128meg Video
1 gig Crucial ram
160 gig sata HD
HP lightscribe DVD burner
Hauppauge TV card (and They have support drivers for it)
I know this is not the 64 bit/dual core wonder myself and alot of other people are running now, but I am not putting it on my other computer untill I feel comfortable using Vista.
The new games and added control panel options are nice, still not enough improvment over XP to justify trying to use it while software and driver support are still slowly being developed.
Just because Microsoft releases a operating system does not mean it will be a good one, Windows ME should be enough proof to everyone that Microsoft makes horrible mistakes.
One last thing, that annoys me the most about Vista, while defragging the hard drive you can't view the progress, or analyze it. I really like to try the new software when it is released, this has been the most disappointing Microsoft release, (IMHO) since XP Plus.
