Hi Blaxeix,
I really appreciate you post, and it is good hearing things from you guys.
You are right. But let me talk now about good stuff. First I must admit that Vista requiers lot of performed hardware. Second, it uses at least 513 MB ram just to be up and runing. (NOTE: Avast 4.7 Home Edition (Free) runs smooth in this 5308 Vista Beta edition). Third They have taken away some things due to they want to hit the market as soon as posible. We all know Microsoft is hungry of money, now more than ever.
I have to say good things too, so here I go:
Vista performs better than my XP Professional SP2. Vista works much faster than XP under the same hardware. P4 3.0 Dual Core, 1GB RAM DDR2 667Mhz Dual Channel, Ati X550 256 RAM GPU. This is something that got my attention. Also it has a new feature that I really like which is the Administrator account. We all know that running under a non admin account is something we don't do even when it is hightly recommended. Well, Vista will make feel the Admin account as a restricted account too, allowing the Administrator to install everything and showing itself as a restricted account for the outside world, thats something good to know. I had never seen Windows so fast as I'm seen Vista today, that another good thing including that I'm still having problems with my Video card drivers and for that reason I can't get much more out of it with this Beta Version. Speaking of the Kernel: I don't really believe that Microsoft reconstructed 75% percent of the Kernel at all. They could just start it from scratch if they were missing only a 25% and they have great people and a lot of money to get this done. Yes, they have review it and secure it as much as posible but this is not what they are telling to the public. It is not only my opinion but is some information I got from a very trusted source.
It is a little uncomfortable for me to work in it but that's just because I'm so used to work with XP that I can't find stuffs without thinking 3 or more times how to get there. As a Beta edition it is still a little unestable, but I haven't have any crash so far, the only thing as I have mentioned is the Video card drivers that sometimes Vista don't load them up correctly and I can see anything but a black screen and a welcome sound. I won't lie either, except for the glass effects I haven't found much new stuff in Vista. I mean, there are many things in Vista that you can get into your XP right now just with a third party program. I'm not paying for Vista yet, not at all, and I don't know what would happen in January. I should have an Empresarial Edition by that time already cos' has been scheduled for November and I have good sources where to get it from.
So far is "nice", so is my XP which I love it! . Secure? Looks like but I can't tell you for sure. Remember uncle Bill's words: "If it is not good, make it look good". I'm getting prepared for tonight, my buddy is coming over with some linux Ditros and his system so see if we are able to hack Vista down and see how far we could get... We just want to test it in a network enviroment. I bet my buddy, David, it's going to show me HOLES with all the bells and whistles!! Let see what Microsoft have really done with its Kernel, and the promise of HIGH SECURITY...
I'll let you know guys...
