Looks pretty nice, although I don't think I'm going to like vista. It was going to be so great, but then they took a lot of out it. Really, your just getting a slightly more secure windows xp with a bunch of flashy graphics to drag down performance. They did a bunch of stuff regarding revamping the kernel, but they should have just ditched the kernel and used/built another one. There have already been security patches released for Vista. Most of their 'new' features have been available in Mac or Linux OSs for years, like new use of memory and heaps. The problem is that they've written it so that while programs that were made to run on xp will run on vista, they will have to be completely rewritten to take advantage of this on vista.
Another thing is that they are planning on using IPsec for internal network security. This is just stupid for internal networks, IPsec was made for vpns.
There's also going to be all sorts of Restrictive DRM in vista. Count me out for vista, if it comes down to it I'll run linux with Wine

Hi Blaxeix,
I really appreciate you post, and it is good hearing things from you guys.

You are right. But let me talk now about good stuff. First I must admit that Vista requiers lot of performed hardware. Second, it uses at least 513 MB ram just to be up and runing. (NOTE: Avast 4.7 Home Edition (Free) runs smooth in this 5308 Vista Beta edition). Third They have taken away some things due to they want to hit the market as soon as posible. We all know Microsoft is hungry of money, now more than ever.

I have to say good things too, so here I go:

Vista performs better than my XP Professional SP2. Vista works much faster than XP under the same hardware. P4 3.0 Dual Core, 1GB RAM DDR2 667Mhz Dual Channel, Ati X550 256 RAM GPU. This is something that got my attention. Also it has a new feature that I really like which is the Administrator account. We all know that running under a non admin account is something we don't do even when it is hightly recommended. Well, Vista will make feel the Admin account as a restricted account too, allowing the Administrator to install everything and showing itself as a restricted account for the outside world, thats something good to know. I had never seen Windows so fast as I'm seen Vista today, that another good thing including that I'm still having problems with my Video card drivers and for that reason I can't get much more out of it with this Beta Version. Speaking of the Kernel: I don't really believe that Microsoft reconstructed 75% percent of the Kernel at all. They could just start it from scratch if they were missing only a 25% and they have great people and a lot of money to get this done. Yes, they have review it and secure it as much as posible but this is not what they are telling to the public. It is not only my opinion but is some information I got from a very trusted source.

It is a little uncomfortable for me to work in it but that's just because I'm so used to work with XP that I can't find stuffs without thinking 3 or more times how to get there. As a Beta edition it is still a little unestable, but I haven't have any crash so far, the only thing as I have mentioned is the Video card drivers that sometimes Vista don't load them up correctly and I can see anything but a black screen and a welcome sound. I won't lie either, except for the glass effects I haven't found much new stuff in Vista. I mean, there are many things in Vista that you can get into your XP right now just with a third party program. I'm not paying for Vista yet, not at all, and I don't know what would happen in January. I should have an Empresarial Edition by that time already cos' has been scheduled for November and I have good sources where to get it from.

So far is "nice", so is my XP which I love it! . Secure? Looks like but I can't tell you for sure. Remember uncle Bill's words: "If it is not good, make it look good". I'm getting prepared for tonight, my buddy is coming over with some linux Ditros and his system so see if we are able to hack Vista down and see how far we could get... We just want to test it in a network enviroment. I bet my buddy, David, it's going to show me HOLES with all the bells and whistles!! Let see what Microsoft have really done with its Kernel, and the promise of HIGH SECURITY...

I'll let you know guys...

yoni5002, Since you are in to alternate operating systems, what with slax and all, have you heard of FreeBSD? I'm planning on installing it this weekend or the next. Its unix based, like linux, but supposedly much more centralized.

Well buddy, as far as I'm concerned SLAX is a delirious OS. I mean Slackware is the full OS while Slax is just a Live Ditro CD but I can do almost everything I need with it. It's just lovely. I think everyone should give it a try. I'm sure it will make lot of people change their mind just after load it up!!... Yes I have heard about FreeBSD but to be very honest I don't know much more of what I have heard. I think i'll take a look at it so we can share some info. Now I'm just installing Slax in my new System and I'm hacking my XP. My old Computer is ready to be sold and I have erased everything in it and I'm just putting in what the customer wants. I mean old because I have a new one I builded 1 week ago, cos' my "old one is not bad at all. Actually it is a CELERON 2.8 GHz 1GB RAM DDR1 + 80 GB HDD ULTRA DMA5, 2 DVD-CD Burners. That's gives you an idea of what it is. The price is very convinient for this customer and I told him I won't charge him more than $300... That doesn't happen too often. Also I'm including some other things too but this is not the point of my posts. I really need to try the FreeBSD cos' I', not able to speak about it. I don't like to talk about anything if I don't know what I'm talking about. It is better to shut up and listen so I can learn about something of what I have no idea. I'll get the info and I will work in that way. For now just let me finish my updates...

There's a lot of information out there about FreeBSD , as well as a lot of comparisons between Linux, windows and freebsd. FreeBSD's main selling point is that it is centralized, and can also run most linux binaries!
