Stuttering video when streaming

Hi,
I have noticed that the video performance in Vista when streaming from the web is very stuttery and pixelated. My machine rates as a 4.0, and I have a good broadband connection. I have an Intel mobo, 3Ghz cpu with 1Mb cache, 1Gb RAM and an ATI All-In-Wonder 9600XT (it's only 128Mb video RAM) with the latest drivers that I can find from ATI. DVD plays great, as does locally stored mpeg and so-on. Streaming seems to be the thing that sucks.

Do I simply need more video power?

Thank for any input, it's always welcome!

Broccoli

I would say Video and Ram. But I dont think your Mother board will support an upgrade to PCI express video....

Red face *sigh*... more $$$

The board is a D865PERL with AGP, so no PCIe option. I built it myself a year or two ago when the Prescott CPU came out, and have added to it from time to time. Intel shows the board in their "retired" listings now so there is going to be little in future support and updated drivers. I would definitely buy Intel again though. This one worked from day one and has never given me any problems. The BIOS is a snap if you need to change anything, and the board has a great layout when you need to change something on it.

So, PCIe is the way to go? Maybe 2Gb RAM? I actually thought that my machine was a little better than average with what I have in it, maybe not. :-)

The only question is, how will Microsoft treat my re-installation of Vista when I put it onto the new machine?

I guess I'll head to Tiger Direct on pay day!

try lowering your hardware acceleoration.. move the slider half way... control panel/ display/setting/ advanced/troubleshoot. experiment drop it half way..and see ,,you can also change it in win media player..under more options performance..also if you are getting alot of buffering ,,,raise the buffering time from 5 secs to say 15 or 20 secs.
