HP Laserjet 1000 Not working

I have Vista loaded and working. Have anyone been sucessful in getting a HP Laserjet 1000 to work with it? It seems the HP 1000 is a bit odd. If so what did you have to do?

Thanks

That particular model is not Vista compatible. Furthermore, it has been discontinued. You could always try installing an XP driver, however, I'm sure that you have already tried that.

Hi !

In case this might still be of interest

for the german version I found out:

LJ 1000 can only be installed via setup.exe.It can be downloaded from HP, XP driver section, and has to be unpacked to a directory along with all aother files.

If you start setup.exe directly, it shows 4 to 5 error messages, which tell you the driver could not be installed - which is actually true

Workaraound goes like this: start manual printer installation, choose USB printer port and select the*.inf file from the unpacked setup root directory. Vista takes some time examining, then starts setup.exe in some sort of different user context. Click through as usual - you will recieve only two error messages, but before that your LJ 1000 will start printing a test page

I have no idea, WHY it works, but I don't care, either. Printer is printing - that's important.

Greetz,

OK
I've just discovered how to fix it
all you need to do is to download the Windows XP driver file for HP laserJet 1000 from HP website...it's the one named HP LaserJet 1000 Host Based Driver

1) Right click and unzip the exe file you've just downloaded

2) goto Printers (Control Panel\Hardware and Sound\Printers)
3) Right click anywhere in the window and select Add a printer. The popup window should now appear
4) Click Add a local printer
5) Click Next
6) Click Have Disk
7) Browse to the location of unzipped folder you (See step 1)
8) My printer was with USB so I choose zUSB.inf (not sure about serial, u might have to choose HPLJ1000 for serial)
9) Click Open and then OK

Computer will install the printer named HP LaserJet 1000, but it wont work

Now Connect your printer to the computer...
Vista will look for the printer driver and install the printer which will work
You should now delete the printer named "hp LaserJet 1000" and make "hp LaserJet 1000 (Copy)" the default printer
You might wanna rename it too

Test and it should work
Worked for me atleast

It works again!

I found this site because my 1000 was not working and I was hating my vista purchase... I called HP to find out about the driver and their advise was to try to return my printers, I was like great advice its like 6 years old, to which they then told me to go out and by a new one.... needless to say HP has horrible customer service and they will be getting a nice letter from me.

But this worked it took me a couple of tries to figure out the right port and I had to refresh my printer list a couple of times to find the copy that worked... but it works again and I could not be happier!!
So if your not computer savy and this is also your problem stick with and it may work!!!

Thank you so much!!! No I can print my letter to HP telling them off!
