Help needed to set up router

As I had been having problems since uninstalling Norton 2006 on XP I have bitten the bullet and bought a copy of Vista Ultimate and installed it. Now nothing works It can't find my sound card, my router my DVD drive, the list goes on. All of my disks wont install as they only have XP drivers on them.

Can anyone tell me how to set up Vista so my computer can see my router so at least I can get online.

The settings in my 3com router are correct as I haven't altered them and my laptop still works online via the wireless network on it. When I type in 198.168.1.1 in my browser I get nothing. I need to be able to get my PC to see the router. I know there must be some settings that I need to put in Vista somewhere to set it up so it talks to the router.

Try power cycling the router (unplug the power cord from the back so all the lights go off, plug it back in). Give Vista a minute or two to establish some communication with the router and see if that works.

I fought with Vista (preinstalled on a new computer) for quite a while until I thought of power cycling the router. It worked.

As for the components, I've yet to find an XP driver that works with Vista. check the components' manufacturer's websites for Vista drivers. Some won't have them yet and until they do, that component is outta' luck.
