No Sound on Vista Ultimate

Hello,

Please help!

Problem: No sound since I upgraded from Win XP to Win Vista Ultimate.
What's happened: Upon installing the new OS, I got an error msg saying that the Intel Integrated Audio for my system is incompatible with my MB. I thought this was strange, considering I am currently running an AMD Athlon 2.00 gigahertz AMD Athlon 64 X2 Dual Core. I would get this annoying pop-up until I disabled this service via msconfig.
What I tried to do:
1) At first, I attempted to disable the integrated audio via BIOS. Unfortunately, I would have video up till win booted. It was very annoying, so I had to re-enable it on BIOS. (but video did work on safemode.
2) I attempted to uninstall the previously installed Sigma Tel HD Audio Driver, v. 5.10.4647.4 and reinstalling it, but that still didn't work.
3) Then I uninstalled the 5.10 driver version and installed the 6.10 driver version, but it still didn't work.
4) then I tried running the command "(something).svc" and starting/restarting the Windows Audio as such, but it turns out that the "dependency features" couldn't initiate. Error 1068, I believe.
Additional Info: I was previously running the corporate version of Norton AntiVirus, but that won't run due to incompatibility issues with my OS.

Please let me know what your thoughts are. I'm out of ideas and soundless. Here are my specs:

Dell Inc Dimension E521
2.00 gigahertz AMD Athlon 64 X2 Dual Core (2 installed)
NVIDIA nForce 430/410 Serial ATA Controller (2x)
SigmaTel High Definition Audio CODEC
Radeon X1300 Series (Microsoft Corporation - WDDM) [Display adapter]
Radeon X1300 Series Sec. (Microsoft Corporation - WDDM) [Display adapter]
DELL 1707FP [Monitor] (17.1"vis, s/n CC28067FAEXF, July 2006)
Board: Dell Inc 0CT103 A02
Bus Clock: 1000 megahertz
Firewall: Windows Defender

Please let me know if you need more info! Thanks!

problem is probably because you updated from XP with all the same internal hardware, and the drivers for some of that hardware (eg Intel Integrated Audio) are not compatible with Vista. You are lucky that only the sound driver is incompatible.

One of the reasons I've held off buying Vista is because there are currently no Vista drivers for my Epson scanner or Canon printer, and possibly some internal devices aswell. This is a problem for all early adopters until third-party manufacturers catch up.

Your first port of call for drivers is the Dell website, but they usually only supply drivers for the version of Windows that was pre-installed on each model of PC. I could be wrong on that point though, so best to check their website yourself.

Dell have a problem with this driver, I'd pop open the case and look for the motherboard make and model, and then go there for the driver.

Cheers
