Sharing Vista folders

I installed Vista Business on one of my PC's- 2 others have XP professional. Installed fine, can see the XP PCs, their folders, files. Problem is, my XP PCs can see what Vista folders I told Vista to share (public and c), but they can't access them. Get messages saying access was denied or my XP PCs don't have permission.

Since my XP PCs can see the network path to the shared folders on my Vista machine, why can't they access the folders? I even turned off my Visat firewall to see if that made a difference. No luck.

Any suggestions?

Thanks.

Dave

Hey Nick, right click on the folder you want to share in Vista and go to security, then permissions. Do you have file sharing set up in Network and sharing centre?

I think I found something; I remembered Vista requires specific permissions to log onto a Vista PC, then remembered something about users on a home network logging in anonymously. So I went to the Vista permissions screen and found "Anonymous" (I don't recall exact method of getting there- I'm still a Vista novice)- it's where Guest, Everyone etc are. I gave Anonymous all permissions, rebooted all my PCs and all of a sudden I could not only see the Vista PC, but could get into the C drive I shared. Now all I gotta do is figure out why not all the folders on C drive can be opened. I thought subfolders inherited rights from shared folder. It appears the files/folders which aren't shared are system folders.

Sharing C: is not a safe way to network PCs. If you want to share files map a network drive.
