Finally a solution

Hey everybody, I know this is a frustrating problem. Below are the directions given asfan42069, but I made changes where they were needed according to HP. It worked for me and I hope it helps you.

click the start menu
find the search box (located at directly above the start menu button)
type in "regedit" and press enter
you might get a warning asking if you want to open the "Registry Edit"
click yes

now you should have the registry edit program open

double click on "computer"
double click on "HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE"
double click on "SYSTEM"
double click on "CurrentControlSet"
double click on "Control"
double click on "Class"
double click on "{4D36E965-E325-11CE-BFC1-08002BE10318} it has to be this EXACT file...do not touch the others.

now you should see a list of items on the right side of the window

and there is an item named "lowerfilter" or "upperfilter"

anyway... right click on it and click delete both.

once deleted, open the "device manager". Start>All Programs>Accessories>Run> type in devmgmt.msc and click "run"

Once you are in the device manager, delete the DVD/CD Rom drives.

after you have deleted the drives, click on the "action" menu located next to the start menu.

click on "scan for hardware changes"

Your computer should automatically re-install your dvd drivers and everything should work. It did for me.

Hope I helped you!

Exclamation TSST L632N ATA Device Win Vista HP Pavilion same problem

I have Win Vista and new Laptop Pavilion DV6748US with above CD drive - I put a flash drive in - two dialog boxes -one for the flash drive F and one for the cd drive came up - both with same files on each!. Removed flash drive and cd rom drive had disappeared altogether - Device Manager says error code 10
Updating drivers etc got nothing. Spent 1 hr on phone with tech support -did the filter delete as above - then IE wasnt working . Unplug all connections from pc and router, pulled battery as directed. Plugged it in and it all come back up. I then pitched the flash drive. but several weeks later the cd drive was gone again -no clue! Got the fix through a chat so I have the transcript as an email if anyone wants it. What is with this? It's been a year since your problem - why is the problem still around?

Thumbs up Windows Vista and CdD/DVDW Code 10 errors

I have an HP Pavillion dv9334us with a TSST CD/DVDW TS-LS632 drive.
THANKS WARHAWK22!

Just a few days ago it stopped worked working. I tried everything that all of you above this reply have tried to do to fix it. I feel that a recent Windows update probably screwed it up. So I uninstall a few of them but it still won't work. Then I happened on this forum and Warhawk 22's message with instructions and figured why not give it a try. I was about to send it out to the warranty shop at this point.

Well, in a matter of a few minutes, by following Warhawk's instructions, all is working fine now. The drive is back to normal and recognized in the Device Manager.

I only hope that by removing the upper and lower filters I haven't caused other problems.
Thanks again Warhawk 22!!!

Hello to all. New to this forum. I had the same problem and this solution didn't work. I used SFDNwin to reload the original firmware and worked but allthough the drive is now usable it will not record. From a little research I did turns out that this could be a problem with deleting lowerfilter. does anyone now how to reset them in regedit? System is hp pavillion entertainment dv6710ev and the drive is ts-l632n. Any help would be appreciated cause I'm on a business trip and in a dead end. thanks in advance

This worked out great. I did both upper and lower filters. Thanks again.
