Sound is on but missing some stuff in device manager

Hi,

I've just upgraded from xp to vista and the first problem I had was the sound it didn't work and said that I had no sound device. I found the correct driver but it was only suitable for windows xp but I thought i'd give a go and forced it to install and it works great. The problem I have is that before upgrading when looking in the device manager under sound and stuff it displayed loads more stuff than thats there now ie;
Audio codecs- missing
C-media high definition device- thats there
legacy audio drivers- missing
Media control devices- missing
unimodem half duplex audio device- missing
video codecs- missing

Do i need these things and if so how do i get them, any help wpuld be greatly appreciated
