Hi,
I've entered to ask a question regarding a blue screen I just keep getting of "Bad Pool Caller"....
But I saw here so meany threads of the NO Sound,so I got remembered having this issue as well till a month or two ago...
So,
What I did, which helped me solve this annoying problem was like that (and ignore the differences between the companies and manufactores since this is a common problem regardless wether your card (motherboard or sound) is from X manufactor or y.
So! this is what I did :
1. Get the latest driver for vista for your Mother Board. (the driver included to the box when you bought it.. probably do not support Vista)
2. Go to the section where you test your speakers.
If they work, but no other sounds such as MP3,Movies,Games and any other sounds go to the next step.
If they do not work, try to plug in again in and out the speakers, or even switch them to an other speakers (even if they're a fresh new speakers).
3. Go download the Codecs' pack for vista here (I think the latest is 446) :

4. Restart would be wise usually...
And this should help you out.
notice : This is for "on board sound card" I'm not sure if it'd help or not for stand alone sound cards,but maybe it will...
