Blue screen error when downgrading
Hello folks,
I bought a new Acer Aspire 5920G last week and it came installed with Windows Vista Home Premium OEM version. First of all, I would like to tell you guys that it works great and I am happy with the "notebook".
What I actually mean is that I am only happy with the notenook and not the OS. Seriously, Vista sucks! Its not compatible with softwares, its memory-hungry, it uses like 700MB of RAM continuously and uses over 6GB for installation. People are going for compact things and MS is going the other way.
Well, let me come down to the problem. I wanted to downgrade Vista to XP so I tried the original way by inserting a bootable disc and booting with it. The setup stopped right before its supposed to display the partitioning options saying that it did not detect the HDD. Therefore, I read up the articles on the internet which suggested that a slipstreamed disc would help as I do not have a floppy drive. I did as the guide said and was able to continue with the setup.
The setup brought up the partition information and I deleted all the partitions on my HDD and created a new partition with sufficient space. The setup continued and installed the initial files. It then reboots the OS and instead of running the setup again, asks me to chose from one of the following:
Run windows normally
Safe mode
Safe mode with networking
Safe mode with (something)
Last best known configuration
Now, no matter what I chose, it gives that scary blue screen that windows 98 always used to show up. It then restarts by itself and gives me the above menu again.
So can you experts please help me out and tell me how to get Windows XP running on my notebook. Also, can you guys tell me if all the drivers are compatible with Windows XP.

I'm pretty sure your hard drive is SATA. (correct me if i'm wrong ). If so you'll need to slipstream these drivers into your XP install disk.
For info on how to do this try here.

options like what?
during the xp installation process, it asks me for my name and organisation and then continues with the installation.
it finalizes the installation and when rebooting to finally go to the desktop, it gives that blue screen

I think there's a Normal Boot Up or Start up instead of safe mode. Try select that option. Or try out the rest. I can't remember my friend choose which option already. But same like you, I bought the 5920G and it was great, except for the Vista that sucks. However, let me advise you for a few things. After downgrade to WinXP, there will be some driver that will have 'Exclamation Mark'. That of course include 'Base System Device' which is under Other Devices. Till now, ACER does not have the driver for posting... They won't be able to sent you via email or what too as the files are too big for emailing. So, you need to know what the driver is 1st. Secondly, the sound system will not be as good as in Vista. If you notice, the sound system is quite good with the built in speaker and sub-woofer with vista. But after downgrading, the sound system is not that good anymore. And remember to do an e-recovery for future upgrading back to Vista. As ACER claims that the warranty covers HARDWARE, and not SOFTWARE. Hence, if you thinking of getting ACER help to upgrade back to Vista, it's not possible. This my advise and 'experience'... =D

phew ive managed to connect after days of erros
oh my what a frustrating week of system restores, factory restores, router resets, error codes and not enough alchol to release the tension but iv mangaed to find this site ( very valuable to me and also the best social life im having right at this moment in time > crap that sounds sad > )
Ok, well firstly a big hello to every one, i hope all peeps are good n well .> Able, well ive tried everything to fx my wireless connection and as tested, typically, this bloody laptop connects to every one elses woreless except my mine - ive taken it on my travels literally all around london and Scotland over the last couple of days and it connects to every available woreless network, secure or with passphrase ( obviously when given passphr) but ive come home to still not able to be wireless > the restriction to the very cramped corner of my sofa is now feeling quite ball and chain like and still no resolution after trying everythig possible even after a visit to a friend who manages a computer shop who looked at me like i was mad after connecting to his network and about 3 others right there and then in his shop then offering to come and sort it for me in my home well errrrrr had to rethink quick on that invo, keep your knickers on girl and wireless connection cant be that costly lol............
Although my computer tech is not that great > in response to zaibatsu2000 - as far as ive been lead to believe ( as i want to downgrade also in a desperate attempt not to explode my new pak bell) one needs to purchace something called partion software in order to contain the vista and aquire something called a dual od partition...if thats correct?
its a software that enables you to have 2 os in your system with the abilty to use one of choice alternatley, its apparently nessecary for vista manufatured notepads and pc`s...thats what ive been informed of so far, i have to agree that i dont lke vista at all also but i do love the screen savers and the more fashionable looking pictures, ooo how materialistic lol,,,,
Well im at a loss here still with my wireless ( no wireless connection), ive tried everything and right now im considering throwing my dummy out of my 10th pram but i have also been in touch with a couple of other isp`s and think il change company, ( its virgin and its as bad as vista, virgin and vista should marry as there both bloddy crap) ok well im going to keep a little eye out here on this here blog for a while tonight as its my 1st real night off in weeks and typicaly i am back to my obessive compulsive disorder encouraged vista and woreless resolutions......
I still have alot of thanks to Able for trying to help me and being very patient with me...what a gentleman > x

Hi Ludawn, sounds like you've had a hectic week! enjoy your glass of red, you've earned it! Ok, regarding buying partition software, you don't have to. Here is a free one. Odd that your pc connects to all and sundry but not your own network. Might suggest there is a problem with your router setup not your laptop. Can I ask if you can connect to it via a cable? If so, have you checked (by logging into the router's control panel) that both your laptop and the router have the same settings?
