My Windows Player suddenly stopped recognizing/playing AVI files. I've checked the file associations and they are correct so that is not the problem. I've been unable to find any listing of required registry entries for Media Player. Will appreciate help from anyone who has gone through this problem and resolved it.

I am currently using vista your help would be apreciated

I know you've mentioned it doesn't play AVI files, does it play any other media? I.e. Audio CDs?

Download VLC player for FREE! from:

http://www.videolan.org/vlc/

If it then plays, then WMP is missing a Video Codec for AVI files.

If WMP isn't showing up, go into start - control panal and uninstall WMP from Add / Remove programs and then reinstall it via Windows Updates or from MS.com
