Vista boot time

My PC used to take approx 5 of the green progress bars to get to the logon screen, Now it takes "28", I have disabled as many startup as i could, and have run "BlackVipers" services tutorial.

I downloaded the "Autoruns" program from Microsoft ( Because Bootvis will not run on my Vista Ultimate ) to see what is being loaded.

I have found these entries that i do not recogniser know if i need them.

BrFiltLoWindows ME USB Mass-Storage Bulk-Only Lower Filter Driver Brother Industries, Ltd. c:\windows\system32\drivers\brfiltlo.sys

BrFiltUpWindows ME USB Mass-Storage Bulk-Only Upper Filter Driver Brother Industries, Ltd. c:\windows\system32\drivers\brfiltup.sys

BrUsbSerBrother USB Serial Driver Brother Industries Ltd. c:\windows\system32\drivers\brusbser.sys

BT File not found: C:\Windows\System32\Drivers\BT.sys

Btcsrusb File not found: C:\Windows\System32\Drivers\Btcsrusb.sys

BTHidEnum File not found: C:\Windows\System32\Drivers\BTHidEnum.sys

BTHidMgr File not found: C:\Windows\System32\Drivers\BTHidMgr.sys

Would it bee Alright to remove them, The reason i'm asking is that i think my long boot time maybe due to some sort of driver being loaded.

cheers

Those where it says "not found" (the last four BT ones) can be removed from your startup list because they are not actually being loaded (they don't exist) but it could still be causing an unecessary delay. Leave the others alone.

I have found the quickest way to cut down the amount of time it takes for the Desktop to appear and be ready to use is to set the PC to "Hibernate" when you shut down, rather than a full shutdown. I' ve done that on my daughter's Vista laptop, and I've always done it that way on my XP PC. But it's particularly welcome on Vista since that is really embarassing how long it takes even when the PC is brand new and you've added nothing to it. My daughter's was taking a full 90 seconds to get to a usable Desktop from switch-on. Frankly ridiculous. Removing Norton Internet Security and installing alternatives got it down to 60 seconds. Setting it to 'hibernate' has got it down to 35 seconds - now she's happy with that.

In 'Hibernate' mode Windows saves the current contents of RAM (including all the loaded drivers and applications) to your hard disk so that when you next power up, that saved state is transferred immediately back into RAM. Result - much faster loading time for Windows.
