sound, audio and game controllers (missing)
Im sure you have heard the "I installed vista and now im getting no sound!!!!"
post but i cant find any information in those kinds of posts to help me!
I have the driver (its soundmax) and everything and i know how to install it but.. it says it cant because the os is not the right one. So i saw something on how to manually install it anyways so i go into control panel and then into device manager but.. sound, audio and gamecontrollers is not there. Everything except that one section of drivers is there but the one for that is missing and i cant figure out why and i am the computer technician (im the only one in the house) and i can usually fix anything but this i just cant figure out. After searching around in the registry i found something with the sound, audio and gamecontrollers in the name but i dont know what i should do. Please help i want sound back!!!

Asus doesn't show drivers available for Vista on their site.
Have you tried the XP drivers?
http://support.asus.com/download/dow...Language=en-us
Asus has a 'Asus Navigation Wizard' on there site have you tried it ?

i have a vista version of the driver (took forever to get it.) I know how to install and everything and asus wizard isn't helping me at all.
i just need to get my sounds, audio and game controllers section back into the device manager so i can install the driver that i have.
here is what it looks like as you can see there is NO sound, audio and gamecontrollers option
If i could use the default drivers i would but they are under other as shown by the picture below :\

make a note of where the drivers are unzipped, and then make Vista use the driver, when it says update driver, use the yellow flagged Multimedia device, this instrution is for a Dell, but the method is the same.
Vista audio – make it use XP driver
I have installed the DELL drivers to Windows Server Longhorn, so they should work under Vista. First download and start the install; this will expand the drivers to "C:\DELL\DRIVERS\R78477", but the install will then fail with unsupported OS message. Now go to Vista Device manager, right click on the sound card and "Update Drivers". In the drivers update wizard select "Search My computer for drivers" then Browse to the directory containing the extracted drivers "C:\DELL etc". Be sure to check the "SEARCH SUBDIRECTORIES checkbox! Vista should then search these drivers and load the appropriate Vista drivers.

Ah thank you so much, both of you. I figured out how to get my sounds, audio and game controllers section back.
I had to go to the computer at the top and right click then legacy drivers and then go down to the sound, audio and game controllers section and add a fake driver that i dont have to get it back but thats fine.
Yes i did what you said bookworm and it all seems to be working fine now once again thank yall soo much!!!
