I wish I could check. I read that it might be fixed in a Vista update, so I tried to install it. When I went to Windows Update, there were 64 updates to be installed, and when I hit "Install" it went non-responsive. I went on the website and installed it manually after a few hours, but once it restarted, it wouldn't turn on. Whenever I try to turn it on, it just stays at a black screen with a little blinking underscore in the top-left corner.

If it helps, I don't remember seeing a yellow "!" when I checked yesterday.

Hi, start PC then try to start safe mode with no networking (tap the del key at start up) once in safe mode go to system restore and choose a restore point before this issue started happening.

There's isn't a "Safe Mode" option. It says...

Boot Menu
2. ATAPI CD/DVD ROM Drive
3. Notebook Hard Drive

<Enter Setup>

The F8 button isn't doing anything, no matter how many times I press it, it still goes to the black screen. And if I keep pressing it, it starts beeping.

the only way i can get my vista lappy into safe mode is to pull the plug whilst powered up,(no battery fitted) then soon as you hit power on tap f8 but i mean very quickly and you have to be quick to know when to stop hitting f8 too,did you not do the vista recovery dvd when you got it.

Didn't work. DX

I don't think we did the recovery thing, we lost the disc. >.>

My mom says she'll buy some blank CDs and download it onto those.

Fixed!

Got my laptop turned on, installed 35+ updates, and the sound is back on.

Now the laptop can't charge. I've plugged it in different outlets, wiggled the cord, etc.

Hi, talk about bad luck! This issue may have to be taken back to the place of purchase, it could be a faulty battery, faulty power supply or a hardware fault.
Don't stuff around with it, just get it fixed asap. If you start taking the M/B cover off you may void your warranty.
